Recently, Professor Wang Tieyu, Key Laboratory of Marine Disaster Warning and Protection of Guangdong Province, College of Science, was approved as the key special project of the National Key Research and Development Program "Intergovernmental International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation", "Climate Change-driven Coastal New Pollutants Behavior Process and Ecological Effect Research", with a fund of one million RMB, the implementation period is from March 2025 to February 2028. The project is led by Shantou University and jointly implemented by Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Chungnam National University and Seoul National University in South Korea.
The National Key Research and Development Program is an integration of the original national Key Basic Research and Development Program (973 Program), the National High-tech Research and Development Program (863 Program), the National Science and Technology Support Program, the International Science and Technology Cooperation and Exchange Project, the Industrial technology Research and Development Fund and the Public Welfare Industry Research Project, which is a major social public welfare research related to the national economy and people's livelihood. As well as strategic, basic and forward-looking major scientific issues, major common key technologies and products that are related to the core competitiveness of the industry, the overall independent innovation capability and national security, they provide sustained support and guidance for major areas of national economic and social development.
The key project of "Intergovernmental Cooperation on International Science and Technology Innovation" aims to carry out science and technology innovation cooperation with relevant countries, regions, international organizations and multilateral mechanisms by supporting intergovernmental science and technology cooperation projects, carrying out joint funding for joint research and development, promoting exchanges and cooperation demonstrations of scientific and technological personnel, encouraging participation in international major science projects (plans), and encouraging the open sharing of large-scale scientific research infrastructure. Jointly solve global problems, promote economic and social development, and make due contributions to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Since joining Shantou University in 2019, Wang Tieyu has presided over three projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, one international cooperation and exchange project, three projects of the Science and Technology Department of Guangdong Province and one project of the Education Department, and been selected into the Guangdong High-level Talents Program. The national key research and development plan "Intergovernmental International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation" is the first project approved by the university at this level. The project will focus on the coastal ecological impact and risk assessment under the dual stress of extreme weather and new pollutants, which is a typical case and frontier topic of Marine disaster research. The approval of this project will play an important role in promoting the discipline construction of Marine science "Long Base Plan" and the development of the Key Laboratory of Marine Disaster Warning and Protection of Guangdong Province.
