According to the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) data released by Clarivate on November 14, 2024, Computer science of Shantou University has newly entered the ranks of ESI top 1% disciplines in the world, and is the 9^th ESI top 1% discipline newly entered during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period of Shantou University. Up to now, 12 disciplines have entered the top 1% of ESI globally, ranking 9^th in Guangdong province.

Since its establishment in July 2023, the College of Mathematics and Computer Science of Shantou University has been focusing on interdisciplinary integration, adhering to the equal emphasis on basic theoretical research and applied research, and is committed to cultivating top-notch innovative talents with national patriotism and global vision. The college has a mathematics postdoctoral research mobile station, a first-level doctoral program in mathematics and 5 master's programs, in addition to the master's degree in education and the master's degree in electronic information.

Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science and technology are the national first-class undergraduate majors, and Statistics, Data Science and Big Data Technology are the provincial first-class undergraduate majors. In the past five years, more than 550 high-level research papers have been published, 35 new national fund projects and 25 provincial and ministerial projects have been added, showing strong scientific research potential and development prospects of the college.

The Computer Science discipline entering the top 1% of ESI shows the solid foundation and strong momentum of discipline development in related fields of the college, and also reflects the new trend of cross-integration of science, engineering and liberal arts in related disciplines such as Computer Science and Mathematics, Information and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering and Business Administration based on artificial intelligence.
