Students from STU College of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering won the first prize in the 4th National Collegiate Chemistry Experiment Innovation Design Competition

From August 20th to 22nd, the finals of the 4th National Collegiate Chemical Experiment Innovation Design Competition of Weirui Cup were held at Zhejiang University. The popular science work "Chemistry and Lacquer, Intangible National Lacquer Craftsmanship" designed by Su Tianye, Shen limiao and Wang Yingxian, 2021 undergraduates of STU Chemistry & Chemical Engineering won the first prize in the national finals.

The awarded-winning popular science work combines chemical knowledge with the intangible cultural heritage of lacquer art, students design a series of professional and interesting chemical experiments around the "national lacquer". It combines science and culture to improve the public's understanding of chemistry and eliminates concerns about chemistry and lacquer. It has won the unanimous praise of the judges. In July, the work advanced to the national finals with the first prize of the South China Division.

The National Collegiate Chemistry Experimental Innovation Design Competition is a national competition sponsored by the Chinese Chemical Society and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the Ministry of Education. This year, it was successfully selected into the Student Competition of the General Institutions of Higher Education Society of the Ministry of Education, becoming a national category A competition for chemistry. This competition attracted a total of 1,076 teams from 445 universities across the country to sign up for the competition. After fierce competition in the seven divisions, 90 teams were shortlisted for the finals.
